2 day IPT workshop- The basics and beyond: Australia

Description: This presentation will review the basic components of IPT and highlight its relevance to a range of disorders, especially depression. For practitioners with specializations in other therapies, IPT can be a useful alternative to your current practice. Cognitive Behavioral Analysis System of Psychotherapy (CBASP)

Where: Mount Sinai Psychotherapy Institute, Toronto Canada


Dates: Two weekends April 25 and 26, June 20 and 21 2008.

Description: CBASP (McCullough) is a time-limited manualized approach to depression whose effectiveness has been validated through large scale research trials (NEJM 2000). Its aims are to help the chronically depressed adult to break through the self-perpetuating cycle of disconnection from the environment, so that their behavioral consequences can better inform their interpersonal behavior. Through active use of the therapeutic relationship, goals include helping the patient generate empathic behavior and heal interpersonal trauma.


Enrolment will be limited to 30 participants. This will be enhanced with two months of case based learning and group consultation through our electronic list-serve. This workshop can be taken on its own or, by application, as part of the advanced training of the MSPI Psychotherapy Certificate Programme.

Myrna Weissman leads a monthly IPT case conference to provide a forum for investigators doing research on IPT with children and adults to discuss clinical problems, and generate research opportunities.   • Videotape: The Psychotherapy Core of the Child intervention Center at Columbia (Dir. M. Weissman, Co-dir. L. Mufson, Coordinator L. Verdeli) is producing an IPT training videotape, that will demonstrate basic principles and techniques in IPT and IPT-A (for depressed adolescents).
  • Audiotapes: The Psychotherapy Core has audiotapes and an educational booklet of the IPT institute at the AACAP conference in 10/00, containing the following presentations:
